Description:
Bright yellow pinnate leaves with reddish stems make this sumac an eye-catching beauty. The leaves will mature to chartreuse green and clusters of reddish hairy seed heads develop late Summer and may persist into the Winter. Fall colour brings on orange, and scarlet tones depending on the amount of sun it receives. Like the native form, this sumac will sucker as well, but not as profusely. You can remove any suckers to keep it in control. The twisting branches with their golden heads are a great focal point.
Sumac can tolerate some shade but will have a looser head. They cannot tolerate wet sites. Good drainage with fertile soil is beneficial. If you want to prune it to maintain the desired shape, this can be done in late winter.
