Description:
Deep burgundy maroon leaves make this dwarf, compact Smokebush a standout specimen ideal for smaller gardens. Summer brings clouds of small, smoke-like pink flowers that appear above the leaves lasting for several weeks. In fall the purple leaves turn rich red and is a deer-resistant species as well.
Smokebush thrives in full sun and average to dry, well-drained soils. This is a very low-maintenance and drought-tolerant shrub. 'Velveteeny' Smokebush should not require much pruning due to its compact habit. Pruning, if desired, can be done after the pinkish smoke-like blooms have turned brown to remove them, and to maintain shape.
