The tree form varieties of Rose of Sharon usually have a 3’ trunk which will remain the same height. The trunk will thicken as it matures. Tree forms are more susceptible to winter dieback, therefore it must be planted in a sheltered location away from winter winds. Best planted into rich, well-draining, slightly acidic soil in full sun and in a location protected from strong winter winds. They cannot tolerate wet sites. Flowers grow on the current year’s growth; early pruning before leaves develop is recommended to maintain size and shape. The leaves emerge very late in the Spring. Rose of Sharon is deer resistant. Rose of Sharon is warrantied until October lst.
