This outstanding upright, but dwarf variety of this Japanese Maple originated in the state of Rhode Island. It has exceptionally dense palmate foliage that opens to a cherry red in Spring, developing burgundy shades in Summer, and finally transforms to brilliant shades of orange and red for Fall colour. Leaves drop late to reveal dark red branches providing Winter interest. Japanese maples thrive in morning sun, or bright dappled afternoon sun. Sun scorch or dry crispy leaves mid Summer will occur in hot or dry locations that receive too much direct afternoon sun. Japanese Maples prefer to grow in moist conditions. Prune in Summer after the leaves have fully developed. Plant in an area protected from strong winter winds. Burlap wrap is recommended for Winter protection for the first year or two until the tree establishes a good root system. Warrantied until October lst.
