Description:
This dense and slow-growing yew loves the sun but tolerates full shade. Its bright green new needles appear over the dark green mature ones and give it a two-tone appearance. It takes pruning exceptionally well. The dark green foliage is a great backdrop for the scarlet-colored berries, but they are poisonous to pets and children. The berries are fine for the birds. It tolerates shearing for a hedge. It branches close to the ground and has a naturally informal habit when untrained. Every landscape looks more attractive with some evergreens, and yews are one of the best, providing lush, dark green growth all season long.
Pruning in late spring or summer is best. Yews are drought-tolerant once established and do not do well in wet areas and cannot tolerate standing water. Water freely in autumn before the ground freezes. Their dark green foliage is a great contrast for flowering shrubs.
